Problems and Solutions

Q..Disk wont insert into console?

Press and hold the eject button for around 15 seconds, this resets the cd drive and will fix your problems.

Q..Do I need a new laser?

The red beam should come on and go off only if its a blu ray disc or ps3 game then the laser will go to a blue beam and from there it should read the ps3 game or blu ray. If a dvd movie is in it the laser should light up red beam and read the dvd. If this does not happen then you more than likely need a new laser.

Q..The yellow light keeps coming on, why is this?

This is due to your fan inside your ps3. It has failed, or is failing and is causing a system failure. Unfortunatly it cannot be fixed. it will need to be replaced. Contact sony or your insurance company.

Q..Flashing red and green light?

When the light on the front of the Playstation 3 blinks red and green, it indicates that the system is beginning to overheat. You should turn off your PS 3 when you see this symptom, and check the vents to make sure that they're not obstructed. Move the Playstation 3 to an area that isn't enclosed or near other electronics, as it may be more susceptible to overheating otherwise. The Playstation 3 generates a tremendous amount of heat, and it may even be hazardous to those other devices, so stacking should be avoided. When the PS 3 reaches the point of completely overheating, it will flash red and then stop functioning, but you may be able to restore power by waiting for a bit before restarting the device.

Q..My video playback is fuzzy or distorted, why is this?

This PS3 issue is most common among owners that connect their Playstation 3 to their television sets through a VCR or VCR/DVD combination device, and it's actually a feature of the PS3 rather than a technical problem. The PS3 is designed with copywrite protection in mind (after all, Sony is a huge distributor of movies and music), and it will show a distorted picture when hooked through a VCR to prevent DVDs from being illegally copied. Someone should probably tell Sony that nobody really copies DVDs via VCR anymore, but until then, you'll have to connect your PS3 directly to your television set if you want to avoid a bad picture while watching DVDs.

Q..Why does my game stay on the logo screen?

This is a problem with the Blu-ray lens of the PS3. It's very rare, and if it occurs, you'll have to contact Sony for a replacement or a repair. Alternatively, you can attempt the repair yourself, but only if you're extremely technically proficient, and it will definitely void your warranty.

Q..Why does my PS3 make a clicking noise?

The clicking noise is associated with the hardware aspect, check out the fan to see if there's something that might have got stuck in between. It also clogs from too much dust or dirt and this may also cause the clicking sound.
The clicking noise may also come from the hard drive. The hard drives are a bit noisy because of the mechanical parts and moving drive head when reading and storing data. Again, if the noise level is very minimal, there's no worry. The clicking noise from the hard drive that becomes too loud may signify that the hard drive is having mechanical problems and may soon brake down. At this point you may want to backup any data you have.
